Tosa Wildlife Habitat
We’re a group of fellow neighbors committed to certifying Wauwatosa as a National Wildlife Federation Community Wildlife Habitat.
Hello, Neighbors
What we need to become certified
Tosa Wildlife Habitat brings awareness to the many benefits of backyard habitats, pollinator gardens, and local wildlife restoration.
Why Certify You Garden?
When you certify your garden, you’re helping our climate by bringing back vital plants for native bees and butterflies. This commitment helps bring back Monarch butterfly populations and others.
A restored garden habitat provides a home for wildlife of all kinds, year round.
It also helps in pollinating our local crops by native pollinator species.
You’ll spend more time outside and in nature.
Wauwatosa is currently a Bird and Tree City, and this Community Wildlife Habitat Certification further endorses our commitment to our city, our neighborhoods, and our collective future.
As a city, we need a total of 400 points to become certified by the National Wildlife Federation. 250 of these points will come from certifying individual gardens. We are well on our way already, but need more homes to reach our goal.
Can you help us?
Only five things are needed to certify your garden.
Food: Plant shrubs that flower and produce berries.
Water: Put out a birdbath — even small water features help wildlife.
Cover: Shrubs, wildflower gardens, rock walls, and evergreens are safe havens.
Young: Nesting places, birdhouses, milkweed (for butterflies), and ponds for frogs foster new life.
Sustainability: Put way (dispose responsibly) of chemicals. They harm habitats and humans.
